Light bulbs and pins

This is another part of my colour project, these are taken out of a mold I made in ceramics of a Christmas light bulb and a pin, to make a mosaic type of feel, I made multiples of each and I am planning on putting them on a board to make it look like a wall piece, once this was don’t I used copper and magnesium oxide, I took the inspiration off a marvel character Harley Quinn because she always wears half red and half black, I think these came out great but if I was to do it again I would try different colours and also try different shapes to see if anything would have looked better.

Anish Kapoor

Anish Kapoor is an artist I looked at for my colour project, the main reason I chose him is because he   looks more at the colour than the object in question. I looked mainly at his red pieces because I choose the colour red, in the picture is one of his famous performance pieces, it is an industrial cannon that shoots blocks of red wax onto the wall, I looked at a video of this being done and the sound it makes is defining and the force he uses is major, the colour is perfect for this performance because it looks like blood. This makes it look violent and evil, which is what I believe Kapoor was going for, I would love to see this done live. I think that making the cannon shoot off a few times in a day is a good idea because then the artwork is still going on and you can not call it finished when it keeps getting added to the wax that is already on the wall. Kapoor is perfect to look at for my colour project because he is more about the colour itself than the actual object, he has done a fair few pieces of art work in red and he had inspired me to look more at the colour than the objects themselves.

Feather bowl

I have published a picture of this already, but this is the final outcome, on top of what I did to the bowl I added manganese oxide and bitter honey glaze, I love how it turned out because it looks old and rustic with some of the slip coming off and revealing the white clay underneath giving me the yellow colour, the oxide has made the feathers tinted blue and the effect makes it look stand out and 3D. If I were to do this again I would keep the pattern I have but I think I would have tried out different colours to glaze it with.

Plaster Mould

This is one of the first outcomes I did in year two, to do this I started to press certain objects from my red project into clay. I choose a Christmas light, a pin scissors and a knitting needle. Then once I built up the walls I poured plaster into my mold it came out like this, but to make the objects stand out I sanded down the objects so they look white against the red clay that got stuck onto my plaster mold to make it look more professional. I then cut off the edges to leave a square around it. This outcome is one of my favorites so far because I love how rustic it looks. I think that if I did this again I would try different objects to see if I could get better molds.

Uncompleted feather bowl

This is my first final outcome in process from my colour project, I chose red, so therefore I chose white clay with a red slip, and I think my carving came out better than I expected it to. My idea of this bowl came from my grandmothers interest in birds, I was out the back with my grandmother, we were bird watching then a family of robins flew into our back garden, looking at their red feathers I realised I had some in my home. When it came to the design I first wanted to write 'RED' all over the bowl but after doing tester pieces I realised it looked too plain, so I went back to my sketch book and looked at some of the objects I had collected. I found the feather i was looking for then after about six different design ideas I realised I had not tried doing different sized feathers and I much preferred it like that, so I spend time carving this bowl making sure I had enough detail to make them look a little realistic.
